Kit Connor publicly acknowledges his sexuality on Twitter
Heartstopper fans forced Kit Connor to come out as bisexual in public after they accused the star of queerbating.
After immense pressure from fans, the Netflix star thought it was necessary for him to address the truth about his sexuality. It happened after the young star was spotted holding hands with Maia Reficco.
Maia also happens to be his costar in the upcoming A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.”
Connor tweeted on Monday:
“back for a minute. i’m bi. congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. i think some of you missed the point of the show. bye,”
This is not the first time the actor became a target of his sexuality. The star who plays a closeted rugby player on the hit show Heartstopper had actually quit his social media platform a month ago. This was because fans claimed he was queerbating for not publicly announcing what his sexuality was.
Now, for those who don’t know what queerbating is, it means to hint at, but not confirm, a person’s sexuality to attract an LGBTQIA+ audience.
At the time, the English actor tweeted:
“this is a silly silly app. bit bored of it now, deleting twitter :),”

Kit feels people judge actors’ sexuality by the characters they play
After the actor was forced to come out, many fans, supporters, and friends gathered in the comment section to offer their support to the actor.
One of the major supports came from Alice Oseman, creator of the Heartstopper graphic novel, who wrote:
“I truly don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes. I hope all those people are embarrassed as F–K. Kit you are amazing,”
An ardent supporter wrote:
“feel for you Kit, sending all the love i have your way,”
Another one commented:
“i love u kit im sorry this has been so disgustingly rough on you. been treated so unfairly.”
Kit also once talked about the pressure he and the rest of the Heartstopper cast felt to label their sexuality because of the characters they portray on-screen.
While in an interview with Reign With Josh Smith podcast in May. the young actor said:
“We’re still all so young. To start sort of speculating about our sexualities and maybe pressuring us to come out when maybe we’re not ready,”
He continued:
“For me, I just feel perfectly confident and comfortable with my sexuality. But I don’t feel the need to really, you know — I’m not too big on labels and things like that. I’m not massive about that. I don’t feel like I need to label myself, especially not publicly.”
Connor said he feels it is a bit strange to make assumptions about a person’s sexuality just based on hearing their voice or seeing their appearance.
The actor concluded:
”I feel like that’s a very interesting, slightly problematic sort of assumption to make.”
