Cooke was born to father Bomi Bulsara and Jer Bulsara in 1952 in Zanzibar, Tanzania (then British India). Her birth name is Kashmira Bulsara but she later took her husband’s name as Kashmira Cooke after her marriage.
Cooke was born to the Parsi parents from India. Her parents fled Tanzania during the Zanzibar Revolution and moved to Middlesex, England in 1964 when she was 12 years. As Zanzibar was a British protectorate until 1963, Cooke was born a British citizen.
Cooke’s brother Freddie Mercury is 6 years older than her. He died on November 24, 1991, at age of 45 from Bronchopneumonia as a complication of AIDS. Even after his death, she along with her parents supported the Queen band and attended their concert.
Cooke’s father, Bomi died in 2003 and mother, Jer passed “quietly and peacefully in her sleep” in November 2016.
