Reality TV Stardom

Kate, Jon, and their eight children appeared in NBC’s House Delivery, which chronicled the renovation of their Pennsylvania home to suit their suddenly much larger family. The Gosselin family was also featured on Discovery Health in a show called Surviving Sextuplets and Twins in September 2005. The family was featured on Discovery Health once more in 2006, in a segment called Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later. Kate and Jon Gosselin, as well as their children, were signed to do a reality show for the network. Jon and Kate Plus 8 premiered in April 2007. The show aired on Discovery Health Network for the first two seasons before transferring to TLC.

Divorce from Jon and Ongoing Custody Issues

The former couple was with their attorneys completing their divorce on the same day that the episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 that announced their separation aired. They decided that all eight of their children would remain in their home, and Jon and Kate would move back and forth in accordance with the custody agreement. They both stated that the show would continue, but on June 23, 2009, TLC announced that Jon & Kate Plus 8 would be on indefinite hiatus beginning immediately.

After a heated argument between Jon and Kate, police were called to the Gosselins’ house in August 2009. Jon was at home with the kids during his scheduled parental visitation time when Kate stormed in, supposedly upset over the babysitter Jon had picked. In this case, no charges were made. On December 16, 2009, Jon and Kate Gosselin’s divorce was finalized. In the divorce, Kate was awarded the family home in Pennsylvania as well as primary custody of all eight children.

Collin, who apparently has special needs, was admitted to an inpatient program in August 2016. A year later, the police were summoned to a dental office when Jon and Kate argued about who would take Hannah home from the dentist’s office. No one was arrested, Hannah returned home with Jon, and Kate was directed to the District Attorney’s office to further comprehend the former couple’s custody agreement.

Jon was given custody of Hannah by a judge in April 2018. This judgment was challenged by Kate. Kate’s appeal was refused by the judge. Jon and his attorney filed documents to seek legal custody of Collin in late October 2018. Kate and her counsel failed to appear at a custody court in December 2018, and Jon was awarded custody of Collin as a result. Kate and her ex-husband contact only through their attorneys. She is not attempting to reclaim custody of Hannah and Collin from her ex-husband as of this writing. Collin and Hannah live with their father and his six-year girlfriend, Colleen Conrad. Collin and Hannah are also estranged from their siblings who live with Kate, and vice versa.
