TLC reality TV star, Kim Plath has officially filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Barry Plath. The two separated in 2022, but now, Kim wants a legal separation too.

Kim Plath files for divorce

It was in 2022 that ‘Welcome to Plathville’ star, Kim Plath, 51 separated from her husband, Barry Plath. And now, there are reports that she has filed for official divorce in a court in Georgia on 26 June 2024. This move has shocked Barry and the couple’s fans.

The court documents that Sarcasm got hold of reveals that she not only seeks divorce but has demanded a lot of things from Barry.

Kim has moved on soon after the separation and found a boyfriend in Ken Palmer. She resides with him now in Florida. Kim’s three minor children with Barry [daughters Amber Plath (15 years), Cassia Plath (13 years), and Mercy Plath (11 years)] are staying with their dad, Barry. But now, Kim has asked for full custody of her three minor kids. Their other six kids are adults already and hence will not be part of the custody battle.

Other demands of Kim

Besides, full custody of their three minor daughters, Kim has also demanded that Barry should pay her child support allowance. He should also compensate her for the money she spends on legal fees for the divorce.

Additionally, Kim has stated that the marital assets as well as debts should be equally divided between her and Barry.

Barry has not yet filed his response to her demands. But fans are of the opinion that Barry might not yield to her demands. Because it was Kim who started the divorce procedure due to the irretrievably broken state of their marriage, according to her.

On the other hand, Kim believes strongly that Barry will bow down to her demands and pay her. She states that she had specific reasons for the divorce. But, she will reveal it in case Barry challenges the marriage dissolution. She will have no qualms in revealing those reasons if she has to. The divorce is heading to a messy land.

The relationship of the couple

Kim and Barry met, dated, and wed in July 1997. The couple has nine children in total. They are Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia, and Mercy.

The show started on TLC in 2019. All of the family members are part of the show except Hosanna and her husband, Timothy Noble. Ethan’s wife is Olivia and they wed in 2018. There were a lot of feuds in the family. Kim tried to control her daughter-in-law, Olivia. Marital problems cropped in the relationship and Ethan and Olivia split in October 2023.

As stated before, Kim and Barry were already staying separately since 2022 and later Kim moved in to her boyfriend, Ken’s mansion in Florida. The estranged couple’s joint statement on divorce read:

“After considerable thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,”
“While this was not an easy decision, we know it’s the best choice for both of us. We have been through many highs and lows in our 24 years of marriage and as we navigate this new chapter in our lives, we will co-parent our amazing children.”
