King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer
Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Monday, February 5, that King Charles has cancer.
The 75-year-old monarch’s most recent health issue emerged only a month following surgery for an enlarged prostate, according to the Palace.
On January 29, he was discharged from the hospital following a three-day stay after undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.
The statement reads,
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,”
The palace has not revealed the type of cancer the king has but confirmed that it is not related to his recent treatment for a benign prostate.
Similarly, the statement noted that His Majesty has begun treatment for the disease and would be unable to undertake public-facing duties for a short time.
Despite having to postpone public engagements, he will fulfill his constitutional duties as head of state, which involve filing papers, using his red boxes, and holding private meetings.
Additionally, Buckingham Palace claimed that the King remains completely positive about his treatment.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible, His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
