King Charles and Princess Catherine are supporting each other amid cancer diagnosis
Princess Catherine is like a daughter to King Charles.
The father-in-law and daughter-in-law duo’s bond might get stronger than ever as they both seek cancer treatment for the first time in the monarchy’s history that two senior royals are facing the diagnosis simultaneously.
Royal biographer Sally Bedell said,
”He has always had a very good bond with her. I don’t think it is presumptuous to say that she is like the daughter he never had,”
“He shares with William an impulse to protect her. They are in this together, Kate and the King.”
Buckingham Palace revealed that the 75-year-old monarch was “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did” to bravely announce her cancer news on March 22.
The day before the future queen’s emotional announcement left everyone in shock, the King and Catherine had a private lunch at Windsor Castle.
Apart from being the King and the Princess of Wales, they are also “two patients going through a common health experience.”
A royal expert said that they “are bound to have a close connection… I imagine there was some comfort [for Kate] in seeing… that it was possible to balance some private information without there being an imperative to share all.”

Why did Catherine’s health scare create a frenzy?
Since undergoing abdominal surgery in January, Catherine, 42, followed weeks of extreme social media speculations about her whereabouts and health.
The frenzy reached its peak when the princess shared a photo for U.K. Mother’s Day photo which was heavily edited. She later apologized for the mistake.
After that, another distressing report came on March 19 that hospital staff at the London Clinic where the Princess had undergone abdominal surgery reportedly tried to get access to her medical reports.
A former palace aide said after that,
“It unleashed a pent-up feeling that people wanted information — unfortunately, that’s the curse of being a modern royal,”
Unlike King Charles’s swift and clear announcement about his health, Catherine’s health news came after weeks of confusion and misleading rumors.
Royal historian Amanda Foreman says of the chaos,
“This was the day that the royal family came crashing down to earth, and you realize they are just human beings.”
Amid the great challenge of his wife of 13 years and father both suffering from cancer and his strained relationship with his brother, Prince Harry, Prince William, 41, is focusing on his family.
The palace aide said,
“There will be a lot more pressure on William, but he’s always been aware of that. He has evolved to lead, and he is leading,”
