Lia Williams is an English actress and director. She is popularly known for portraying the role of Wallis Simpson in The Crown. Similarly, she is also known for The Foreigner (2017), Living (2022), and The Russian Bride (2001).

Talking about her career, Lia Williams began her acting career in 1984 by playing the role of Karen in the television series Annika. In 1991, she appeared in  The Revengers’ Comedies for which she received the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer and an Olivier Award nomination for Best Comedy Performance.

Moreover, Lia has done lots of theatre shows. She played the role of Carol in the London production of David Mamet’s Oleanna in 1993. Likewise, she made her appearance opposite Michael Gambon in London’s West End and on Broadway in David Hare’s Skylight.

Lia made her appearance at the Gate Theatre as Alma in The Eccentricities of a Nightingale and Blanche du Bois in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire in Dublin. She received The Irish Times Best Actress Award for both roles.

Additionally, she played the role of Bella in Michael Winner’s Dirty Weekend in 1993. Likewise, she has played supporting roles in several movies like  Firelight (1997), Shot Through the Heart (1998), The King Is Alive (2000), Girl from Rio (2001), and The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey (2007).

In 2004, she portrayed the role of Ella Wilson in the television show May 33rd for the BBC for which she received the FIPA Award for Best Actress and was nominated for a BAFTA. She was also seen in the Netflix series The Crown as Wallis, Duchess of Windsor. recently, she appeared as Dr Cooper in His Dark Materials and DSU Gemma Garland in the BBC six-part mystery thriller The Capture.

Williams also has directed various short films and Theatre shows. She has directed short films like  Feathers,  Dog Alone, and Nanabozhung. Likewise, she has directed on stage like The Matchbox by Frank McGuinness for Liverpool Playhouse.
