Matt Shultz was arrested in New York City
The lead singer of Cage the Elephant, Matt Shultz, was arrested in New York City on Thursday after officers found two loaded firearms in his Bowery Hotel room.
Shultz was accused of two charges of criminal possession of a firearm, according to Billboard, which cited the NYPD.
He did not have a license to possess the weapons he was carrying. Following a response to a 911 call at 10 a.m. that stated someone was in possession of a firearm, the arrest took place. Matt Shultz spent the night at the Lower Manhattan 9th Precinct following his arrest.
How did the police find out about his firearm possession?
The Daily Mail claims that a Bowery employee saw Matt Shultz carrying a gun. He allegedly carried a firearm inside the ground-floor bathroom of the motel.
The police responded the following day after receiving the report and knocked on Matt Shultz’s home, according to the publication.
The artist allegedly told the police that he had two.45 caliber guns in his possession. Matt Shultz said he was unsure when asked if he still had the weapons. Shultz was detained and escorted to the station house at the 9th precinct.

The Aftermath of the Matt Shultz arrest
After his imprisonment, a court authorized a search of his chamber, where detectives found loaded weapons. A Smith & Wesson and a Sig Sauer were among the weapons found. On Thursday night, Shultz was apprehended carrying two weapons at a hotel in Lower Manhattan.
Someone saw him pull a gun out of his pocket and dial the police. Authorities stated that the 39-year-old appeared to be drunk. When police found the guns in his room at the Bowery Hotel, he was charged with weapon possession. Additionally, 11 Polaroid pictures of the weapons were recovered by the prosecution, some of which depicted “a hand holding, pointing of the pistol.”
Additionally, six handwritten notes were found, one of which, according to the investigators, said: “I will defend myself if I am attacked.” The singer has no prior criminal records.
