Max George celebrated Christmas with his girlfriend, Maisie Smith, after being discharged from the hospital following an emergency heart surgery earlier in December.
The 36-year-old singer had undergone a two-and-a-half-hour operation to fit a pacemaker due to a serious heart condition.
On Christmas Eve, Max shared a video expressing his joy about being discharged from the hospital, where he had initially expected to spend the holiday due to heart surgery.
In the video, he stated,
“Merry Christmas, everyone. I just wanted to say that I’m back home waiting for my beautiful girlfriend to arrive at some point. Best present ever.”
The couple also shared personal moments from their Christmas Day on social media. Max posted a cozy photo with his actress girlfriend, where they were cuddled up on the sofa, with him wearing a festive red cracker hat.
He also shared a picture of a beautifully set Christmas table adorned with crackers and candles.
Furthermore, he expressed his happiness about being home by captioning,
“It’s so good to be home” along with a heart emoji.
Earlier this week, George updated his fans about his health from his hospital bed via Instagram Stories. At the time, he also announced his upcoming discharge.
In the video, the Wanted singer stated,
“It’s time to go home. The numbers are way, way better. Feel knackered. Slept a lot today. Few more tests to do over the next couple of weeks – something to do with my lungs, but … that’s the least of my worries right now. So yep, all good. A bit battered and bruised and knackered but ..”
Max George’s inspiring health journey
Max George was taken to the hospital earlier this month after feeling unwell.
He later revealed that he had to remain hospitalized due to heart complications and has since received a pacemaker to help regulate his heart.
Additionally, he underwent emergency heart surgery that lasted about two and a half hours.
The singer shared details about the difficult surgery, explaining that some of his veins had collapsed where the pacemaker wires needed to be placed.
He shared a photo of a scar on his collarbone, located just below a tattoo dedicated to his late bandmate Tom Parker.
In a heartfelt social media post, he expressed gratitude towards the NHS staff, stating,
“Say hello to my little friend! Given the last 10 days, this is the best Christmas present I could have ever wished for. Pacemaker is in. Operation took around 2 and half hours. The main issue being some of my veins had collapsed where the wires were meant to go… But the hospital surgeons, doctors and nurses at the NHS have been incredible. I owe everything to them. The surgeon kindly put my pacemaker just underneath a very special tattoo of mine.. So I’m sure it’s being looked after.”
George also shared insights about his health journey following a doctor’s warning regarding his low liver count due to past drinking habits.
He stated,
“We have cancelled out a few things like alcohol for example. I have not had a drink for four and a half years, so it isn’t that.”
His girlfriend, Maisie, expressed her pride in him during this challenging time. Last week, she visited him in the hospital, sharing a heartfelt moment captured in a photo where they held hands.
Despite her busy schedule, she remained dedicated to supporting him throughout his recovery. The 23-year-old actress stated in an interview with The Sun,
“We’re still talking every day and FaceTiming; I’m still trying to be there as much as I can be.”
How long have Max George and Maisie Smith been dating?
Max George and Maisie Smith met as contestants on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020. Although the couple didn’t start dating until 2022, they are said to have grown close during that time.
A source said,
“They spent a lot of their time together and would always be seen joking around in the dressing rooms and after the shows. Max was sent home from Strictly following a dance-off with Maisie on the proper show so that also became a running joke between them.”
The narrative continued,
“Their close friendship then grew stronger on the second Strictly tour this summer… Maisie and Max are acting like love-struck teenagers.”
