Alongside, he worked on direct prosecutions of national security matters like the Oklahoma City bombing, Unabomber, and Montana Freemen cases.

Besides that, he announced a civil investigation on prison violence and sexual abuse of LGBTQ prisoners in Georgia in September 2021. A month later, there was another investigation into five immature custody structures in Texas for systemic physical or sexual abuse of children.

While in his tenure in April 2021, Russia prohibit Garland from entering their country. This action was taken in retaliation for sanctions issued against Russia for interfering in the election and dominating Ukraine. Joe Biden had accused his predecessor of spreading an “entrapment of lies” about the rightfulness of the 2020 election. There has been a demand to prosecute the former president and others, including obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy, and seditious conspiracy.

President Biden added that,

“for the first time in our history, the president had not just lost an election, he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob reached the Capitol”.

Merrick Garland memorialized the contribution of five officers who lost their lives in protecting the Capitol and democracy. To date, they have arrested and charged more than 725 defendants across all the states of the US. All those who assault and conspire have been charged according to the present prosecutorial system. He assured that all the guilty will be punished and held accountable based on the evidence.
