Mitski Miyawaki is a Japanese-American singer and songwriter. She released her first album Lush (2012) and her second Retired from Sad, New Career in Bussiness, (2013).

During this time she was studying studio composition at the Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music.

After graduation, she released her third studio album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek. In 2022, she was dubbed “Best Young Songwriter” in the United States by Ben Beaumont-Thomas of The Guardian.

Soon after her graduation, she worked as a vocalist for the short-lived prog-metal band voice Coils and released her third studio album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek in 2014, through Double Double Whammy.

In 2015 she signed with Dead Oceans and announced her fourth studio albums Puberty 2 and Be The Cowboy. Later in 2017, she went on a U.S. tour.

Later in 2021, she released her single Working For the Knife in October and in November she announced her sixth studio album Laurel Hell and her second single The Only Heartbreaker alongside a music video.

Throughout her career, Mitski has got nominated for many Awards. In 2019 she won Music video of the Year for “Nobody” in Libera Award. Later in 2022, she won Best live performer for herself in AIM Independent Music Award.
