Modern-day Romeo and Juliet-Michele D’Alpaos and Paolo Agnelli and their love story

They are modern-day Romeo and Juliet. An Italian couple, Michele D’Alpaos and Paola Agnelli met on their balconies during the current coronavirus lockdown phase. And their love story began. For Michele, 38 it was love at first sight. Paola, 40 was walking across the terrace of her apartment in Verona when Michele first saw her. He told CNN:

“It was the afternoon of March 17, when I was forced to work from home because of the lockdown. I saw this beautiful girl, Paola. I was immediately struck by the beauty of this girl, by her smile. And I had to know her.”

Michele saw her for the first time that day despite the fact that the two had been residing in buildings across from each other for their entire lives.

But on that particular day when Michele was at home due to the quarantine period, Paola’s sister played the violin on the balcony in order to cheer up the neighborhood.

The fire was on both sides-Paola too felt the instant love for Michele

Paola also felt the same intensity of love for Michele as he did for her. She said:

“I immediately thought. What a beautiful boy. I believe he was sent to me from heaven.”

And fate gave them the route to know each other more and come closer. Paola knew Michele’s sister. They used to frequent the same gym and also follow each other on Instagram. When Michele came to know about this, he too registered for an Instagram account.

Michele recalls:

“One message after another, we ended up chatting until late at night. By then I was just waiting to wake up in the morning to be able to talk to her again. We had so many things in common, from food to politics, she was very nice, she always laughed at my jokes, even the most stupid ones.”

Romance across the balconies

They could smile at each other across their balconies and chat online. Michele found some novel ways to impress Paola and let her know how much he loved her.

One summer morning, he wrote Paola’s name in big letters on a white bedsheet and hung it from the top of his building for it to come into her sight. Michele said that their across-the-balconies love was difficult. He had to find ways to woo her to the soul. At the same time, he did not want it to get monotonous.

Then one fine day, they managed to meet each other in a garden near their homes. The smitten lover recalled how they sat on a bench and kissed each other without talking. They soon started meeting up regularly and had dates and birthdays together. The two are now engaged but wedding plans are still not in. But they are keen to start a family. Unlike the original story of Romeo and Juliet, Michele hopes that their love story will have a better ending!
