His other achievements include a gold medal at the 1981 World Judo Championship in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Likewise, silver medals at the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics and the 1983 Judo World Championships won five European trophies.

Also, Neil Adams is a two-time British Judo Championships winner, winning the lightweight and half middleweight titles in 1976 and 1988.

At the age of 60, he was promoted to kudan-9th Dan by the International Judo Federation on December 18, 2018.

After his retirement, Neil Adams started a coaching education business called Neil Adams Effective Fighting and coached Judo all over the world. In Belgium, he was the VJF judo national coach and later became the head coach of the Welsh Judo Association.
