Barbara Kavovit and her Bankruptcy Case

Barbara Kavovit, it is learned, had filed for bankruptcy in the year 2015. She had put in papers for Chapter 7 of bankruptcy on 16 March 2015 when she owed more than $ 1178350 to her creditors.

Kavovit had to pay $ 63000 as income tax which included penalties and the interest on the amount pending. She also had an American Express Card and on this too she had taken credit of $ 25000.

She also had not paid her rent for many months and it had accumulated to an amount of $ 86000. Besides these amounts which she owed, there was also the legal fee of $ 747900 which she owed and had not yet paid.

It has been said that she had a monthly income which has been stated to be $ 20000 and her monthly expenses were to the tune of $ 12670.

Barbara had filed a notice of appeal on 8 February 2018 and the entrepreneur’s case is now with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Pryor Cashman and his legal filings

It is also reported that one of her creditors Pryor Cashman had placed a lawsuit against her on 15 January 2016 and this was for the determination of her financial situation as regards non-payment of debts and also for denial of entitlement to discharge and declaratory judgment.

Pryor had stated in his filing that he had been providing her with legal services since 2002 and that he was forced to stop giving her the services due to non-payment of the pending dues.

The filing said:

“Pryor Cashman’s outstanding invoices to Kavovit covered $441,581.20 in legal services and $36,106.99 in disbursements, for a total of $477,688.19. Although Kavovit paid $54,524.91 toward certain invoices, the balance of Pryor Cashman’s bills was not paid.”

Pryor had filed a case against her in 2009 as well and was told to return Pryor’s dues but she refused to and has to date not paid him his balance amount. He also got an information subpoena and a restraining notice served on her.

It read:

“The Information Subpoena directed that Kavovit timely provide various information covering 36 months preceding the service of the Information Subpoena. Kavovit responded to all of the foregoing requests and specifications for information either with a single word “none” or by referring Pryor Cashman to her tax returns from 2010, 2011 and 2012.”

She failed to respond and produce the documents requested in the subpoena.

In her filing for bankruptcy papers, she has named Pryor as a creditor against whom the standing amount to be paid is $ 673000. But she has also asked his case to be dismissed.
