Ronnie Hillman is no longer alive among us! The Hillman family confirmed the tragic news on Wednesday, December 21, via Instagram that former NFL running back Ronnie Hillman has died.
The heartfelt statement reads,
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother & father, Ronnie K Hillman Jr. Ronnie quietly and peacefully transitioned today in the company of his family and close friends.”
The family posted a picture of Ronnie smiling. They concluded their statement with gratitude towards the loved one and asked for their privacy during this difficult time.
“We as the family, appreciate the prayers and kind words that have already been expressed. We ask that you would give us time to process our feelings as we prepare to lay our precious RJ to rest. More information will be forthcoming.”
Ronnie was just 31. He was part of the Denver Broncos team since 2012, who expressed their condolences on social media Thursday morning. His team won the 2015 Super Bowl 50 championship season.

The Denver team’s statement reads,
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of former Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman.”
“A key contributor to the winningest four-year period in franchise history, Ronnie was part of two Super Bowl teams and led the Broncos in rushing during our Super Bowl 50 championship season.”
The team described him as “soft-spoken with a warm smile and quiet intensity” adding that he “grew into a dynamic player and well-respected teammate”. Similarly, they concluded the statement by saying,
“He will be fondly remembered by our organization, which extends its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Hillman family during this difficult time.”
What is the cause of Ronnie Hillman’s death?
Many outlets reported stated that Hilman was under hospice care. He was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer called renal medullary carcinoma.
His family also confirmed in their heartfelt statement that Hillman had been diagnosed in August. On Tuesday his teammate Orlando Franklin tweeted,
“#BroncosCountry please pray for Ronnie Hillman he’s in hospice and not doing well,”
While 104.3 The Fan‘s Derek Wolfe revealed that Ronnie also had pneumonia. He said,
“He has pneumonia and I’m putting it out there just to send positive vibes his way.”
Wolfe went on to say the former athlete was a “Great football player, great person, great teammate, just an all-around great dude”.
Ronnie’s death sparked an outpouring of shock and grief across the sports field. Furthermore, Brandon Stokley mourning his teammate’s death, penned down,
“That’s awful news. He had a slow start but really picked it up and contributed a lot during the Super Bowl year.”
