Gypsy Rose Blanchard fell in love with Ryan Scott Anderson while she was in prison for murdering her mother.
The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years behind bars in 2016 for killing her mother. Her late mother made her undergo years of numerous medical treatments she never thought she needed.
Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, ”a form of abuse in which a guardian may seek attention or sympathy by making their child ill or exaggerating their illness.”
Gypsy and her boyfriend at the time Nicholas Godejohn conspired to kill Dee Dee in June 2015. After that, Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while her boyfriend was charged with first-degree murder.
Blanchard came out of prison on December 28, after serving eight years in prison.
She met her now-husband Ryan Scott Anderson in prison, who is a school teacher in Louisiana,
Ahead of her release in December 2023, she told People, “We’re in love,”
She also admitted that she wants to start a family with Anderson and is all set to go to a loving home.
Gypsy further told the outlet,
“I know the home that I’m going home to is with my husband, and I’m going to have a really supportive family dynamic,”
“And I think that that’s what I’ve been missing this whole time.”

Ryan comes from Louisiana
Blanchard and Anderson’s marriage license shows that he is from Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he works as a middle school special education teacher.
After her prison time, Gypsy planned to move to Louisiana. Ryan joked that it was the first reason she decided to have a chat with him.
He told People,
“She’s like, that was probably the main reason is you were from Louisiana and I wanted to make friends with people from Louisiana,”
“So I credit that as being the most important thing is that I was just from Louisiana.”
Anderson and Blanchard connected through letters
The two first started talking in 2020 during the COVID-19 times.
Anderson was working at a hospital at the time and his clientele dropped from around 300 to 12 patients.
He said that the Netflix show Tiger King was popular at the time and his co-worker wanted to write to the Tiger King subject Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage.
It was then he thought that even he could write to Gypsy. He wrote to her but didn’t expect to get a return letter. However, within a few weeks, they were writing to each other.
They met after a year of exchanging letters
COVID-19 restrictions wouldn’t allow the two to meet so soon. They met in July 2021, a year after they started talking.
Gypsy called Anderson her “emotional backboard,” crediting him for helping keep her calm.
She said,
“We met in 2020 when the pandemic was really, really strong, and I had a lot of emotional ups and downs because of COVID,”
“Unfortunately, it put the prison in a position to where it restricted our freedom even more … So Ryan has seen me through some really good times, some really hard times.”
They tied the knot while Gypsy was in prison
Gypsy was previously engaged to a man named Ken in 2019 but they called it quits later.
Anderson and Blanchard received their marriage license in Chillicothe, Missouri, on June 27, 2022, while she was still serving time.
One month after that, on July 21, 2022, the two said I DO in a small prison ceremony with no guests.
