Gypsy Rose Blanchard gets out of prison

On Thursday, December 28, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was granted parole from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. She has recently been released from prison after almost eight years of sentence.

Following her release, she stated PEOPLE,

“I’m ready for freedom, I’m ready to expand and I think that goes for every facet of my life.”

She gets released three years earlier than her scheduled release date.

In July 2016, Rose Blanchard was arrested and given a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to the murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.

Nicholas Godejohn, her daughter’s then-boyfriend, stabbed Dee Dee to death the year before. Nicholas, on the other hand, received a sentence of 25 years plus life in prison without parole.

He was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2018. Rose Blanchard told the outlet,

“No one will ever hear me say I’m proud of what I did or I’m glad that she’s dead. I’m not proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”

Gypsy Blanchard was born in 1991 to Rod and Dee Dee Blanchard. She also has half-siblings and a stepmother, Kristy.

However, Dee Dee restricted Gypsy from meeting and getting close to her father and his family. She was prohibited from attending school.

“I was very sheltered I was limited in what I could watch and the exposure I had to other kids. What I knew of the outside world was only in Disney movies and those don’t talk about warning signs of bad parents.”

She had spent her entire childhood being controlled and monitored by her mother.

Who was mentally ill?

Dee Dee had raised Gypsy to believe she had sleep apnea when she was a baby.

Similarly, Dee Dee stated that her daughter needed a wheelchair and a feeding tube when she was eight years old, claiming that she had muscular dystrophy and leukemia.

Dee Dee continued to detail her daughter’s medical issues, which included hearing and vision abnormalities, asthma, and convulsions.

Gypsy had to use a breathing machine to go to sleep and was given a long list of prescription drugs as a result of Dee Dee’s conduct.

She also underwent several surgeries, including ones on her eyes and glands that were removed. Yet, the truth was Dee Dee throughout Blanchard’s childhood fooled her.

Later, it was reported Dee Dee had a mental illness known as Munchausen Syndrome by proxy. This disorder caused her to pretend her daughter was unwell to get sympathy and attention for caring for a sick child.

What’s the relationship status of Gypsy Rose?

Gypsy is married. She tied the knot to a Louisiana teacher, Ryan Anderson, last year behind bars. She gushed about her marriage life with PEOPLE,

“We’re in love. When I’m at home with my family, with my husband’s arms around me and I’m surrounded by my loved ones, that is when I will be happy.”

Talking about her relationship with Nicholas Godejohn, they met online. Nicholas is from Wisconsin. During her testimony, Rose Blanchard revealed that she regrets having “talked him into it.”

She said,

“If I had another chance to redo everything, I don’t know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I’m not sick and mommy makes me sick, Or, if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, ‘You know what, I’m going to go tell the police everything.’ I kind of struggle with that.”
