Sarah Ferguson surprises royal fans during Christmas services

Sarah Ferguson appeared alongside members of the British royal family for their annual Christmas Day church outing, her first since she left the family in the 1990s.

The former member of the family, 64, who is lovingly called Fergie, walked alongside her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, at the Church of St. Magdalene in Norfolk, England, on Monday.

Fans were definitely not expecting Fergie at the holiday services since she has been absent in decades since separating from the disgraced prince, 63, in 1992.

Despite finalizing their divorce in 1996, the two have remained good friends and continued living together at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Joining the exes were their two daughters: Princess Beatrice and  Princess Eugenie with their husbands, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, respectively.

The ex-couple are also grandparents to three: Eugenie’s two sons, August, 2, and  Ernst, 7 months, and Beatrice’s daughter, Sienna, 2.

Fans expressed their surprise upon seeing Sarah at the event, with one writing,

”Even after her divorce she stayed close and was respectful of the Queen. Her daughters were raised well and also close to the Queen. She was honored y being given the Queen’s dogs after her death.”

Another wrote,

”Over time I have come to realize she is a very nice person and absolutely great mother – she did an excellent job with her daughters.”

A third commented,

”Awww it’s nice to see Fergie, I haven’t seen her in years.”

How is Sarah’s relationship with Andrew post-divorce?

Andrew stepped out of the royal duties in 2019 because of his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Three years later, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II stripped him of his military titles and patronages after his controversial interview where he doubled down on defending his friendship with the criminal.

Despite the disastrous comments, Ferguson has remained close to her former spouse and continues supporting him. She even called him a “kind man” and a “fabulous” father who had her full support.

In 2021, she told People magazine,

“Whatever challenges he has, I will stand firm to the co-parenters that we are together,”

“I believe that he’s a kind, good man, and he’s been a fabulous father to the girls.”

The A Most Intriguing Lady has been absent from most of the royal events this year. She also seemingly made headlines for not receiving an invite to King Charles III’s coronation earlier this year.

But Fergie claimed that she had not been affected by the lack of invitation.

During her appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, the mom of two said,

“You can’t have it both ways. You mustn’t sit on the fence. You’re either in or out, but don’t muck around,”

“I am divorced, and I’m really loving being divorced to my ex-husband — not from my ex-husband, it’s quite a differentiate — and also getting out there as a new novelist.”

The Duchess was also diagnosed with breast cancer which she found out during a routine mammogram.

She also started a new chapter in her life when she started co-hosting a podcast show.

The former royal  celebrated this holiday by posting a picture of her and her daughters on  Christmas Day, with the caption,

“We are enjoying each other’s company and feeling grateful today,”

“I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Happy Christmas to anyone who celebrates and season’s greetings to all!”
