90 Day star Sarper Guven surprises Shekinah Garner with a proposal after a year of turmoil

Sarper Guven and Shekinah Garner have officially become engaged after a tumultuous relationship.
During the November 11 episode of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way, Sarper surprised Shekinah with a heartfelt proposal during a romantic boat ride in Turkey.
He started the proposal by expressing his gratitude to Shekinah for helping him transform from “the most chaotic, toxic man on the planet” to someone filled with love.
He stated,
“I don’t know how you did it but you cracked, hacked my password, logged into me and changed all my default settings one by one,”
During the proposal, Sarper sang a song he had written for Shekinah before getting down on one knee and declaring,
“I will marry you!”
This light-hearted moment was met with laughter as Shekinah playfully responded,
“You’re just telling me?”
Sarper then responded that he preferred not to ask questions that required a yes or no answer but was pleased that she accepted his proposal.
Well, Sarper’s engagement plan is part of a larger strategy to keep Shekinah in Turkey, even though he has a K-1 visa that would let him move to the United States.
Just days before the proposal, Shekinah had a heated argument during the Tell All episode of the show.
During this argument, she voiced her frustration about Sarper’s past relationships coming back into their conversations, which was creating tension between them.
She expressed her feelings by saying,
“I’ve dealt with this past ever since we met and I’m tired of it,”
With this statement, Shekinah is emotionally distressed by Sarper’s previous connections. Nevertheless, the two are now engaged.
Sarper Guven and Shekinah Garner celebrate a traditional Turkish engagement ceremony
Following the romantic proposal, Shekinah and Sarper joined his family for a traditional Turkish engagement ceremony.
During the ceremony, Shekinah was given the task of preparing a deliberately unpleasant cup of coffee for Sarper.
Sarper’s cousin, Fusun, explained that the purpose of the tradition is to test the groom’s commitment and determine “how badly” he wants to marry her.
Meanwhile, Sarper struggled to maintain a serious expression during the ceremony. Shekinah noticed his reaction and asked, “Is that a little face you’re pulling?” while his family laughed at his response.
In a confessional, Sarper admitted,
“It was disgusting,”
He also expressed his effort to remain unresponsive, saying,
“I tried to not give any reaction. I don’t know if I did it, but oof”
Following the coffee ritual, they participated in a ring ceremony where they wore rings tied together with a red ribbon.
This ribbon was cut by the eldest family member, symbolizing the beginning of their engagement.
The challenge of Sarper Guven and Shekinah Garner’s future
Sarper and Shekinah’s future together remains uncertain despite their recent engagement.
The 90 Days Fiance star has plans to keep Shekinah in Turkey, even though he has been approved for a K-1 visa to move to the U.S.
He expressed his desire for them to live in Turkey together, hoping that the love and culture would encourage Shekinah to stay.
After their engagement ceremony, Sarper announced in Turkish, a language that Shekinah is still learning,
“My goal is for us to be able to live here, I hope that all the love she’s seen from you here and our culture have convinced her [to stay].”
However, when Shekinah requested a translation, Sarper did not reveal his intentions. He mentioned,
“My family, they don’t want me to go and they love Shekinah, so I’m still hoping we can eventually convince Shekinah to stay here in Turkey.”
Meanwhile, Shekinah feels hopeful and excited about their future together. She believes they are building a life as a couple but is unaware of Sarper’s true plans regarding their living situation.
She said in a confessional,
“I just never thought that I would be standing here today engaged to that man in the picture and planning a future with him, It’s just so surreal and I can’t wait to get to the US and start our lives together,”
