Shakira believed her ex-partner Gerard Pique was her happily ever after before she allegedly cheated on her with a much younger model.

The Whenever Wherever songstress who called it quits with the soccer player in June 2022 opened up about how their 11-year relationship ended, during a recent interview with Billboard that was published on Thursday.

She told the outlet,

“My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part.’ I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children,”

The Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker and the footballer share two sons, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. The Colombian star admitted that she hoped for forever love just like her parents’ who have been together for more than 50 years.

The Grammy winner explained,

“They love each other like the first day, with a love that’s unique and unrepeatable,”

She said,

“The thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him. It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona,”
“I couldn’t leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm,”

Shakira is focusing on her career after relocating to the US

After relocating back to Miami after the split, she has been working in the studio recording new music and is also planning to tour in 2024.

Talking about her two boys, the pop star said that they have been enjoying their lives away from the spotlight after moving to the US.

She explained,

“The media situation was hard on them [in Barcelona]. We had paparazzi at our doorstep every single day,”
“Here, they’re normal children who enjoy normalcy, which is what school should be: a safe haven where they can be themselves.”

Shakira and Pique, 36, called it quits and issued a joint statement to announce the news last year.

She reportedly discovered that the pro athlete was having an affair after she found out that jam jars were disappearing from her home.
