Katie Piper and her appearance on this season of Strictly Come Dancing

Katie Piper is due to appear on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing and she has revealed the mental torture she went through after the acid attack. She stated that she felt extremely depressed and low when her second daughter Penelope Diane was born last year.

Katie told Daily Star:

“I live with anxiety and I still get depressed, because you don’t go through life-changing things and just get better and it’s over.”

The former model added:

“You learn to live with it, when you have another child, you have no downtime. I did feel depressed and low.

“But your body is going through changes, physically and hormonally, so I just tried to check in on myself to make sure it wasn’t spiraling.”

Katie’s reaction follows the news heard that her attacker Stefan Sylvestre is due for release soon.

The prison authorities have stated that Stefan is no more a danger to society and can be released in a matter of weeks if all goes well, despite the fact that he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

There was, however, a clause of a minimum of 6 years jail term, and this sentence was handed down to him in 2009.

Katie’s immediate reaction on learning the news of her attacker’s likely release

Katie was extremely saddened to learn that her acid attacker is scheduled to be released soon. Katie had shared her reaction on her social media.

She had written:

“Hi everyone, I felt it was important to put a message out to my friends, supporters and followers.

“This is a really difficult time for me. I am trying to come to terms with the decision and this is something I need to deal with. Over the past two weeks Strictly has already given me such a welcome and positive distraction from my past.

“Whilst there is never a good time to hear this news I am glad I have this new journey to concentrate on. Thank you for your continued support, I really appreciate it. Love Katie x.”

The 2008 acid attack

Her boyfriend, Daniel Lynch was obsessed with her and had a brief relationship with Katie. He had allegedly raped her and at that time she was an aspiring model and presenter.

He ordered Stefan Sylvestre to throw acid on Katie and Stefan had flung sulfuric acid on Katie’s face in North London in 2008.

Katie was scarred on her face and most of her body and the acid attack also led to her partial blindness. She has undergone 40 operations on her skin and body since the acid attack.

The two were arrested and after a trial that went on for a year, they were sentenced to life imprisonment.

But while her ex-boyfriend David was handed a minimum of 16 years of prison term, Stefan was permitted to be able to go free after a minimum of 6 years behind bars. Stefan was 20 at that time.
