Jane Castro presented Taylor Swift with the key to the city and the title of Mayor for a day
The Mayor of Tampa, Jane Castor, made some special arrangements for the upcoming three-night performances of Taylor Swift at Raymond James Stadium. In a video posted on Twitter on Monday, the Mayor welcomed the singer and praised her as Swifties eagerly waited to see how Tampa would welcome the singer.
In the one-minute video, she said,
“Hey Taylor, this is Mayor Jane Castor. We are so excited to welcome you to Tampa.”
She said she wanted to do things better than other cities did when Taylor came into town:
“We know Glendale changed its name, Arlington made a street sign, and Vegas illuminated their Gateway Arches, but here in Tampa, we’ve got a reputation to uphold. We want to go bigger. So I want to present you with a key to the city.”
Moreover, she also invited the singer to be the city’s honorary mayor for a day. She opened up a wooden box containing a key and said:
“Mayor Swift has a nice ring to it. We can’t wait to welcome you and your fans to Tampa (Taylor’s Version),” the actual Mayor added with a wink.”
They also captioned the post:
“#TAMPA are you ready for it? We’ve got a reputation to uphold!! Tag @taylorswift13 if you agree ‘Mayor Swift’ has a nice ring to it.”

Fans have mixed reactions to the news
As soon as the videos were posted on Instagram, it blew up and fans were quick to share their views. Some were happy, some were not.
One fan joked:
“Joe Biden should invite her to be the president for the rest of his term.”
A second fan was happy:
“It’s her world and we just live in it (red heart emoji)”.
Another explained the importance of Swift’s concert:
“Taylor’s tour is benefitting the cities she’s performing in. It’s the biggest event of year. hotels, motels, restaurants, bars and etc are getting more profits. That’s why the cities are honouring and welcoming taylor like the Queen.”
However, some were not happy about the news. One user wrote:
“Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Another one pointed out the lack of gay rights in Tampa and asked Taylor to decline:
“She should decline… ! If she’s an ally of the LGBT+ community, she will not participate with a state that doesn’t allow us to be ourselves. #Don’tSayGay #gayrights #humanrights @taylorswift decline the offer.”
Taylor Swift began her first tour concert since 2018 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on March 17.
She performed a total of 44 songs and showcased her versatility over her 17-year career. The show turned out to be amazing and left her fans very happy and wanting more.
