Who is Theresa May?

Theresa May is a former UK Prime Minister(2016-2019) and the Leader of the Conservative party. May was a home secretary in the Dave Cameron government since 2010 before serving as a PM.

May as a conservative politician was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidenhead in Berkshire since 1997.

Father Hubert was an Anglo-Catholic, a chaplain of an Eastbourne hospital, and a clergyman at the Church of England. Eventually, he became vicar of Enstone with Heythrop and St Mary’s at Wheatley.

Regarding education, May first joined Heythrop Primary School before shifting to St. Juliana’s Convent School. Later, she attended the former Holton Park Girls’ Grammar School, a state school in Wheatley that was reorganized as  Wheatley Park Comprehensive School. May graduated with a second-class BA degree in 1977 from St Hugh’s College, University of Oxford.

May entered into politics after she realized that a corporate job was not made for her. She was the councilor for Durnsford ward and the Borough Council of the London Borough of Merton from 1986 to 1994. May then became Chairman of Education (1988–90) and Deputy Group Leader and Housing Spokesman (1992–94).

Member of Parliament (MP)

In May 1997, she was appointed as the MP for Maidenhead. Later, she was elected as a member of the Shadow Cabinet from 1999 to 2010. Between 2002 and 2003, May stood as the first female Chairman of the Conservative Party. May voted to approve the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Home Secretary

Theresa May got the position of Home Secretary in May 2010. Her tenure as an HS became the longest-serving Conservative Home Secretary. Moreover, May has been involved in reducing crime, reform of the police, and initiation of the landmark Modern Slavery Act.

May stood for the British military intervention in the Syrian civil war. Further, in 2013 she made up her mind to ban the stimulant khat standing against the advice of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).

Prime Minister

The lady PM of the UK, Theresa May held her position in July 2016 and served the country until July 2019 with the same dignity. Within the 3 years of her reign, she widely worked on expanding mental health services, Modern Industrial strategy, and released agendas on global warming. She subsequently adopted a 25-Year Environment Plan for the same.

Theresa May has voted to accept same-sex marriage to the armed forces panel outside the UK in the year 2014. Previously, before PM she was against the bill reducing the consent age for a homosexual couple to 16 in 1998.

Distinctly, she conducted the first-ever Race Disparity Audit and worked on behalf of humanity. The good points of her PM career are she was able to decrease the national debt and engage more workers through her tax cut policy to 32 million people.

May has resigned over Brexit as her efforts were unsuccessful to deliver the same. Though she promised the Conservative lawmakers she would quit if they supported her Brexit deal, her plans failed for the third time.

After PM

After dethroning from the post of PM, she was elected as the MP for Maidenhead in December 2019. She is still an activist who addresses a range of local, national, and international issues. She even challenged Boris Johnson on Gray’s report finding in early 2022.

There is a debate on whether conversion therapy should be banned in the UK or not. May also has a say on this while PM Johnson made up his mind to ban gay Conversion Therapy, not the Trans one.
