Thomas Markle talks on how his daughter told him about her new boyfriend Prince Harry!
- After his recovery from a heart attack, Meghan Markle’s father Thomas Markle gave an interview on UK’s Good Morning Britain.
- He spoke at length about how his daughter revealed to him gradually about her new boyfriend, Prince Harry.
- The retired Director of photography also talked about his health and his daughter’s love for children.
Meghan Markle’s gradual disclosure to her father about her dating Prince Harry
Thomas Markle, 73 recalled in the interview how his daughter Meghan had broken the news of her new date to him. He said:
“The first phone calls were ‘Dad, I have a new boyfriend.’ And I said, ‘That’s really nice,’ And then the next call was like, ‘He’s British.’ And I said, ‘That’s really nice.’ And eventually the third time round was, ‘He’s a prince.’ At that point she said, ‘It’s Harry.’ And I said, ‘Oh Harry, okay.’ And she said, ‘Of course, we’ll have to call him H so no one knows we’re talking about Harry. It’s H.’ ”
The proud father further added:
“And then we talked about that, and eventually I spoke to him as well. Very nice man. Gentleman. Very likable.”

Thomas Markle’s talk with Prince Harry
Thomas Markle has yet not met in person his son-in-law Prince Harry but in his opinion, Prince Harry is a great and interesting guy. He has only spoken with the Prince over the phone.
Thomas said:
“It’s been over the phone, always over the phone. We have yet to see each other face to face. We’ve had interesting conversations on the phone. He’s a smart guy.”
The first conversation between the two went as follows, according to Thomas:
“He said, ‘Hello Thomas,’ and I said, ‘Hello Harry.’ It became a conversation back and forth mostly about politics. He was asking me how I was feeling that day, and I was telling him how unhappy I was with the president, or with the idea of Trump, and that’s how it began.”
Prince Harry had asked for his daughter’s hand on the phone and Thomas had said:
“Harry asked for her hand over the phone and I said, ‘You’re a gentleman, promise me you’ll never raise your hand against my daughter and of course I will grant you my permission.’”
He added:
“He’s great, an interesting guy, a prince, but my daughter’s been a princess since the day she was born.”
The father also said that she had wanted children for a long time.
Thomas’ non-attendance at the wedding
Unfortunately, due to his ill health, Thomas could not attend his daughter’s wedding. He was suffering from a heart attack and could not travel a long distance to the wedding venue in the UK.
He had said initially that he would not attend the wedding. Later he said that if his treating doctors gave him permission to travel, he would attend the ceremony and walk his daughter down the aisle.
Two days prior to the actual wedding date, Meghan issued an official statement that her father would not be able to make it to the wedding due to his health issues. Prince Charles instead had walked her down the aisle.
Thomas said:
“It was a very emotional moment for me, like I said, I cried about it. I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle. I wanted that moment. But I’m thankful for everything the way it went. I was very proud. I was very upset that it wasn’t me but the whole world was watching my daughter. I was very happy about that.”
