His first television work was Syd in the Paul Abbott thriller series State of Play in which he starred alongside John Simm, Bill Nighy, and James McAvoy. He played the 20-year-old version of Giacomo Casanova’s son Giac in 2005 in the television movie Casanova which was directed by David Tennant and Peter O’Toole.

Burke starred as Dr. John Seward in the 2006 TV film Dracula and portrayed Napoleon Bonaparte in an episode of the BBC’s docudrama Heroes and Villains he has a minor role as a book publisher in the satirical drama The Trail of Tony Blair. Later, he was featured as Lieutenant Race in an episode from the twelfth series of Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

 In 2011, he appeared in two episodes of the BBC’s adaptation of Charles Dicken’s Great Expectations, and in 2012, he was selected as a regular cast member in the second series of BBC Two’s This Hour with Bill Kendall. In The Musketeers on BBC One from 2014 to 2016, he played the role of Athas, an adaptation of Alexander Dumas’s character.

He worked with Ian McKellen on the drama The Cut in 2006 and portrayed Adolph in the Donar Warehouse production of Creditors in 2008. Burke’s godfather, actor Alan Rickman, directed the play that won Tom an Ian Charleson Award, then in 2010, that play had its world premiere at New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Tom had his feature debut as The Libertine in 2004, and in the comedy film I Want Candy in 2007 where played an aspiring filmmaker.
