The world record egg
On 4 January 2019, the account ‘world_record_egg’ uploaded the image of a hen’s egg on its Instagram. The user puts the caption:
“Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this.”
The account garnered 6.9 million followers in a short span of time and on the afternoon of 14 January, it received 30.5 million likes. The picture of the egg surpassed Kylie Jenner’s record in a matter of 10 days.
Kylie Jenner and her Instagram record
Last year in February, the reality TV star Kylie Jenner set a new world record when her post announcing that she has given birth to a baby named Stormi gathered 18 million likes.
Her 124.3 million fans were thrilled by the news and had given her many likes for it. She had put up the picture of her baby’s tiny hand holding her thumb. It was indeed a cute picture that desired the record likes.
The response of the account holder world_record_egg
It was a huge achievement for the account holder of world_record_egg. It was an anonymous account for the Egg Gang and they wrote on their Instagram Stories:
“This is madness. What a time to be alive. Thank you so much for all of your support and messages. I’m gonna try and get back to as many of you as possible. But for now I need to sleep. It doesn’t end here though, we’re only just getting started. #EggGang Mic drop.”
Their efforts to break Kylie Jenner’s record had paid off. The experiment started when the account holders felt that it was possible to break a celebrity star’s records on social media. They gave it a trial and they were successful.
Lately, the rising South Korean K-pop star Kang Daniel had set a new world record for the fastest time to gather 1 million followers on Instagram. He had achieved this in 11 hours and 36 minutes breaking the earlier record held by Pope Francis who had collected 1 million followers in 12 hours after he debuted his verified Vatican Media channel ‘franciscus’ in the year 2016.
Kylie Jenner’s response to the new record holder
Kylie Jenner took the whole thing lightly and well and in response reposted an old video in which she can be seen frying an egg on the tarmac.
She wrote under this video:
“Take that little egg.”
Kylie still holds the record for being the highest annual earning female celebrity. This attempt by the anonymous account holder was to break the dominance of celebrities in the social media world.
