The herpes scandal and lawsuit!

Usher was slapped with a court case in 2012 by a former celebrity stylist who claimed that she was ill-informed by the singer about his genital herpes infection.

He had told her that he has been tested negative for the virus even though his pens had a greenish discharge.

She has further stated that he deliberately and knowingly had unprotected sex with her. This led her to acquire the disease from him.  The stylist has further said that she had cervical sores,  fever, and chills.

The lady infected by the virus transmitted from Usher had further said that between 2011 and 2012 her medical bills amounting to $ 2754.40 were footed by Usher. It is around this time that the stylist became aware of the whole matter.

It is believed that Usher had contracted this incurable problem in 2009  or 2010 when he was cheating on Tameka and their divorce was underway.

The stylist has said:

“I feel that my health and body have been ruined and I have suffered severe emotional distress and have been extremely depressed … knowing there is no cure.”

It has also been learned that the singer has paid the complainant $ 1.1 million towards the settlement of this lawsuit. Usher is wedded to Grace Miguel since 2015.

Grace is 8 years older than Usher and has been his long-term girlfriend and manager. The couple had quietly tied the knot in Cuba in September 2015.

Neither Usher nor Grace has provided any statement from their side on this matter.

What is herpes infection?

Herpes infection involving the genital areas is caused by herpes simplex type 1 or 2. However,  most of the cases are due to the type 2 virus. It is caused by sexual contact.

It causes blisters which may break and give rise to painful sores. There may be associated fever,  chills, and feelings of malaise. Some of the cases may go dormant.

In this stage, though the person with the virus may have no disease, it can still be transmitted to another person. Hence it could be dangerous.

Most of the cases are characterized by attacks followed by periods of dormancy. The virus cannot be eradicated from the body and remains in the nerves. These virus particles get activated when triggered.

The condition can be diagnosed by physical examination, laboratory tests, and cultures. There is no cure and involves treatment of pain and symptoms.  Some anti-virus drugs assist in faster healing.
