A 41-year-old former Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Tetsuya Yamagami assassinated Shinzo Abe. The authorities have reportedly brought murder charges against him, resulting in his arrest. In addition, he is in arrest while interrogation is still going on.

Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died after being shot today while campaigning in the city of Nara. Japan’s longest-serving prime minister was officially pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m. local time on July 8, 2022.

Nara Medical University where Abe was hospitalized announced the tragic death news at age 67. Abe was also shot in the right side of his neck at around 11:30 a.m. local time while the bullet was deep in his chest as well.

Interestingly according to NDTV, Tetsuya Yamagami did not kill Shinzo Abe with an ordinary gun. The shooter himself created the murder weapon and targeted Abe to shoot him to death.
