Many celebrities get a good break and begin their career well but, due to some reason, they may not be able to continue it. They move away from limelight and start a job that no one would have thought of. Similarly, this English actress of EastEnders fame had the acting talent but due to the struggles of a single mother, she ended up taking up a security job with B&M in Romford. Do you know who she is?
The talented EastEnders star
EastEnders show is a very popular show on BBC. The first show was in February 1985 and until now, it has seen 33 seasons. It talks about the lives of the working class community residing in the fictional Albert Square, borough of Walford in East London. Within eight months of its commencement, the show reached no.1 slot in TV ratings.
The storyline deals with several families residing in that area. One of them are the Slaters. Hayley Slater is the cousin of the character of Kat Slater in the soap opera. Katie Jarvis portrayed the role of Hayley from 2018 to 2019.
Katie’s character Hayley had an unexpected pregnancy due to a one-night stand with Alfie Moon, who was the ex of Kat. The truth comes out on Christmas day 2018. Kat is furious and a scuffle follows. In all this, Hayley accidentally pushes Alfie down a fleet of stairs.
Hayley requires admission into a psychiatric ward but she flees from there leaving behind a sorry note for Kat.
Earlier in 2009, Katie had played Mia Williams in Fish Tank. She won British Independent Film Awards and several award nominations for it. She has also acted in Ginger (2016) and I was 3 (2017).
Katie’s kids? Where is Katie Jarvis now?
Talent agents discovered Katie when she was in a heated argument with her boyfriend at Tilbury Town railway station. She was a school dropout with no job. They cast her in Fish Tank. Later, she bagged the role of a lady thug in Harry Brown (2009). But, Katie had to leave the role due to her pregnancy.
On 9 May 2009, Katie gave birth to a baby, daughter Lillie Mae. Later, on 19 April 2011, her son, Alfie was born. The identity of the fathers of her two children remains a secret.
Katie has just few acting jobs to her credit. She ended her contract with BBC in 2019. Soon after, she landed a job as a security guard with B&M in Romford in the Havering borough. She decided to take up the job since she had to rear her two kids as a single mother.
Katie told The Sun UK in 2019:
“It’s the nature of being an actor,”
“Gigs come and go, and after my contract with EastEnders ended, I found a new job as soon as I could.”
Her pillars of support have been her ex-costar, Tamzin Outhwaite and actress Nathalie Emmanuel. Katie expressed to Grazia:
“Their support gave me the strength to speak out and stand up for hard-working people – especially single mums. As long as I’m providing for them, nothing else matters. Everything I do is for them.”
Katie’s tryst with law
Katie was glassed when she was on a night out in March 2019. Later, she assured her fans that she is fine. On her social media, she wrote:
“Ok to put people’s minds, and questions to rest. I am absolutely fine thank you so much for all your concern and checking in on me but I’m a soldier and been through hell of a lot worse.”
“Now you can start focusing your concerns on some real news Love you all xx.”
Katie had another setback in 2020. On 31 July that year, she allegedly racially abused and assaulted a woman in Southend-on-Sea. The police arrested her. The Crown court convicted her for assault by beating, common assault, and racially aggravated harassment. She had to do 200 hours of community service and complete 60 days of specific rehab sessions.
