Young MA biography and early life

Young MA whose real name is Katorah Kasanova Marrero is an American rapper, YouTube star, and lyricist. She was only 9 years old when she started rapping at a corner store in Brooklyn.

She was born on April 3, 1992, in East New York.

MA had a troubled childhood as her father was jailed when she was just one year old. He remained in prison until Katorah was 11  years old.

When she was only 7 years old, her mom decided to relocate her family to Chesterfield, Virginia so as to provide better school facilities for her daughter.

Katorah would write her own rhymes in her textbooks which would later come in handy when she grew up. She would later rap those rhymes in 2001 when she turned 9.

Her mom became her biggest rock and she encouraged her to purchase a karaoke machine. Her mother would mostly play reggae and hip-hop music in the house which might have influenced MA’s career choice.

MA loved rapping so much that when she was offered the character of Freda Gatz in the drama series Empire,  she denied the offer saying she only wanted to focus on her music career.

MA’s family later relocated to Brooklyn when she turned 16. She lost her elder brother in 2009 in a gang violence in Pennsylvania.

Losing her brother made her go through depression and she even received multiple sessions of treatment. She also took a short break from her career.
