Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and wife Saira announced separation after 29 years of marriage

AR Rahman and Saira have parted ways
Split alert! Two-times Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu are no longer married. The pair called it quits on their marriage after nearly three decades of togetherness.
The couple announced their separation on November 19, 2024, through a joint statement released by their lawyer, Vandana Shah, on Instagram. The post reads,
“After many years of marriage, Saira and her husband A.R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other, This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.”
The statement continued,
“Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. AR Rahman request privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life.”
In addition to the lawyer’s statement, the Slumdog Millionaire composer expressed his feelings on his X (formerly known as Twitter) profile, reflecting on their hopes for a lasting relationship and the pain of separation.
He wrote,
“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end, Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
The former couple married in 1995 and have three children, son Ameen, 21, and daughters Khatija, 28, and Raheema.
The couple’s children have also asked for privacy while processing the news of their parents’ divorce. Ameen expressed on his Instagram story,
“We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time, Thank you for your understanding.”
Raheema added in her Instagram Stories,
“I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy & respect. Thank you for your consideration.”
Additionally, Khatija shared both of her siblings’ Instagram Stories on her own profile.

AR Rahman has built a highly successful professional career as a renowned composer, musician, and music producer. He is recognized for his innovative contributions to both Indian and international cinema.
He recently received the XTIC Award 2024 for Innovation from IIT Madras for his groundbreaking work on the virtual reality film Le Musk.
