Balen Shah is a popular Nepalese Rapper, structural engineer, and social media personality.

Currently, Balen Shah is in the limelight for being the independent Mayor Candidate of a Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the 2022 municipal election in Bagmati Province. He has stood out in the Candidacy with the Stick (Lauro) sign.

According to The Kathmandu Post, he is leading by double the votes against former Mayor,  Keshav Sthapit and his nearest competition, Shirjana Shrestha.

He was born to his father, Dr. Ram Narayan Shah, and Dhruva Devi Shah (Shanti Shah). His father has previously served as Managing Director at Singadurbar Vaidhyakhan and is a part-time lecturer as well.

Talking about his siblings, Balen Shah has an elder brother named, Kaushal Shah who is an alumnus of Oxford Brookes University. Currently, he serves as AST.

General Manager at Omni Group and even serves as a Finance Manager at the Omni Business Corporate International Pvt. Ltd. Kaushal is a married man who has a beautiful wife named, Shila Bastola.

As per the engineer’s academics, he completed high schooling at Alliance academy and enrolled at V.S Niketan College.

He then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the White House Institute of Science and Technology.

Balen Shah debuted his career as a rapper. He appeared as a contestant in the Second Season of Raw Barz (A Nepali Rap Battle League).

In the finale, he defeated Litl Grizl with 13 rebuttals and multi-syllabic rhymes. So, he soared to fame for being the winner of the show.

After the show, he began releasing his own rap music videos on his self-titled Youtube channel. Some of his rap songs include Gaita Badhyo, Marpha ko Madhira, Temi Phool, Oa Buda, Man Yo Udyog, Local Thito, Hande Hande, and others. 

Many of his fans and followers were wishing to see the rap battle between him and the former contestant, Laure aka Ashish Rana, of the second season of Raw Barz. Though, the battle never happened between them.

Balen Shah is currently assigned as a judge for the Nepali Rap Competition show, ‘Nephop ko Shreepech‘ along with other co-judges, Girish Khatiwada and Manas Ghale.

Besides, the rap and music industry, he is a certified engineer as well. He is a multi-task performer who is also serving as a Structural Engineer and Project Manager at Platinum Developers.

As of 2022, he is one of the mayoral candidates of Kathmandu Metropolitan City standing against the former CPN-UML mayor, Keshav Sthapit, Shirjana Shrestha of the Nepali Congress, and other parties.

The artist is gaining immense love and popularity among youth to old-age people. Since the announcement of his candidacy, he has been interviewed on different national channels and podcasts  and has shared his visions, missions, and strategies

According to The Kathmandu Post, Balen Shah has received 39.5K votes by leading with a double over Sthapit, Shirjana, and other candidates on May 22, 2022.

Though the opposite candidates and others did not take him, as a serious competitor, in the beginning, now he seems to be giving neck-to-neck competition to them.

In the previous mayor candidacy, he has shared a status on his Facebook account, that he will not be contributing his vote in the 2017  Kathmandu municipal election and will rather vote for himself after 5 years, standing as a candidate.
