Ben Affleck has gone through some the rough times in his life in these past few years. From the public divorce to having to go to rehab therapies, he has faced lots of things.

He and his ex-wife ended their marriage in 2018 and the actor is very vocal that he regrets the divorce. The actor has also openly talked about his alcohol addiction in the past. As he has gone through all of these, he is playing a similar role in ‘The Way Back’.

The American actor has always opened up about his alcoholism and the difficulties he faced due to it. In his upcoming movie ‘The Way Back’ he is playing the role of an alcoholic person who has a broken marriage.

While talking about his recent interview, he revealed that accepting the role that was the mirror of his inner demons. And the role has helped him to free.

Though taking the role made him feel free, he suffered a breakdown in one of the scenes. During one of the scenes, his character Jack Cunningham alters into his wife.

Due to the scene, the actor went through a breakdown on the set. The director of the movie Gavin O’Conner described the situation by saying:

“It was probably the second take, Ben just had a breakdown. I’m getting chills thinking about it. It was like the dam broke and everything came out,”

Furthermore, he explained everyone on the crew got froze when they saw him display his soul. He also added this was all real as the parts of the movie described his own life.

His emotions in some particular scenes are very raw and real. The director added that this would be too emotional and personal for the audience to watch.

Broken marriage and alcoholism of Ben

Actor Ben and his ex-wife Jennifer had separated many years ago. However, they continued to come together for their three kids who they have together.

However, in 2018 their marriage came to an end after it went through the worst phase. The actor has always mentioned divorce as his biggest regret.

The actor had realized and accepted what caused the destruction in his personal and professional life. He comes from a family with issues of alcoholism and mental illness.

The actor’s father was an alcoholic, his paternal grandmother had died of suicide at age 46. Moreover, his uncle too had killed himself with a shotgun and his aunt was addicted to drugs. The actor went to rehab therapies and slowly overcame his issues.
