Bill Nighy denies dating Anna Wintour after sparking rumors at the Met Gala

Bill Nighy has debunked rumors about him dating Anna Wintour and confirmed that they are just “great friends”. People started speculating after the pair walked arm-in-arm on the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023.

Wintour, who has been in charge of the annual charity event since 1995, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Nighy, wearing a patterned coat over a silver satin skirt in honor of her late friend Karl Lagerfeld.

Nighy chose a black suit, white shirt, and navy tie, while Wintour placed her hand around his arm for photographs in which they both posed.

However, in a short statement released to The Independent, Nighy’s rep denied the rumors.

“Bill and Anna have simply been great friends for two decades. They are not in a relationship.”

This is not the first time Bill and Anna sparked romance rumors

Bill Nighy and Anna Wintour have sparked romance rumors several times before this. They were linked romantically in December 2022 when they were seen together in New York City for the screening of Nighy’s movie “Living”.

Despite being friends for years, rumors swirled that they were in a private, romantic relationship. This isn’t the first time rumors have circulated about the two dating; they were spotted together at a London theater in 2018.

Nighy addressed the rumors back then, acknowledging that there were a lot of rumors about him and Anna to Page Six:

“There are a lot of rumours about me and probably about Anna.”

However, the two have known each other for a long time, as they were seated next to each other at a fashion show in London in 2012.

Before being linked with Nighy, Wintour was married to David Shaffer. They were in a long-term relationship with Shelby Bryan before they split in 2020.

Nighy, on the other hand, has a daughter named Mary with his ex, Diana Quick.

Met Gala 2023 paid tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum’s fashion exhibition, dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld this year, coincides with it.

The exhibition, titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” includes over 150 pieces, including sketches, in honor of the famous late designer’s life and career. The dress code for the event is simply “In honor of Karl,” and it is up to the interpretation of the attending celebrities and their stylists.

Andrew Bolton, the curator of the Costume Institute, said that he hoped that guests would honor Lagerfeld’s spirit and wear vintage Chanel, Fendi, or Chloé. Lagerfeld also designed for Patou, Balmain, and his brand.
