American actress and Saturday Night Live alum, Cecily Strong is elated. She made a happy announcement recently on the Late Night on 27 March 2024 episode. It was about her engagement. Cecily told the host of the show, Seth Meyers:

“I got engaged,”

Further, she reminded Seth about his past opinion and statement about her personal life:

“You always said, ‘No one will ever love you, and you will never get married,’ you were wrong!”

Her long-term private boyfriend, Jack proposed to her in December last year. But Cecily knew that he would ask her hand in marriage. The actress narrated the whole incident on the show:

“It was not a surprise, but I am kind of a detective,”
“We talked about getting married and then one day he was like, ‘I’m so inundated with emails and texts, look at this,’ and he showed me his phone, and the first text was from a friend that said ‘How did it go ring emoji.'”
“And then I was like, ‘Oh no, should I?’ and he went, ‘Did you see that?’ and I was like, ‘I could try very hard to lie’ But—so then I knew.”

How did Jack propose to her?

When Cecily came to know about Jack’s plan to propose to her, she did not pester him further but let him decide on when and how he wants to do it. She recalled:

“I was like, ‘Whenever you want to do it, that’ll be the surprise,'”

Further, Cecily continued:

“And then I had kind of a rough night in December, and I was like, ‘Can I just wear the damn ring now?’ So that’s how we got engaged.”

Thus, the proposal was not a surprise or a secretive one for Cecily. She was aware of it and in fact, prompted him to do so.

The larger sized engagement ring of Cecily

Cecily disclosed that the engagement ring was not of the right size for her left ring finger. It was larger in size and was loose on that finger. There was a risk of it falling off. Hence, she wore it on her index finger for quite some time. Cecily explained:

“I don’t know my ring size, I wear like every size ring,”
“So he took one of those, and it was five sizes too big–I was wearing it on my index finger for a long time, not as a statement, it just would’ve fallen off.”

Earlier, Cecily had talked about how her boyfriend was a gift for her. She wrote for Vulture in 2020:

“At first I thought it was so difficult to meet someone right as I was losing someone I loved so much,”
“I knew he’d have to be patient with me. He’d have to let me grieve. I say, ‘I think you were a gift to me from Owen.’ And I like thinking of it that way.”

Owen Strong was Cecily’s cousin who had died in 2020 due to brain cancer.
