The death of Cuba Gooding Sr.

The Main Ingredient lead singer was found lying unconscious in his car in the San Fernando Valley, California, around 4 p.m.

After the investigation, police suspect that it is possible that he was overdosed and were photographing liquor bottles that were found in the car.

Law enforcement reported,

“Gooding Sr. was ‘slumped over in his silver Jaguar’ which was parked on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills. The fire department responded to the scene at 12:58 p.m. PT and attempted CPR, but the singer could not be resuscitated. The vehicle was reportedly registered to Cuba Gooding Jr. and wife, Shirley Gooding, according to KTLA 5.”

Cuba Gooding’s Flashback

Gooding joined the band, The Main Ingredient after the lead singer of that band Donald McPherson died of leukemia in 1971. Before that, he was the backup vocals of the band.

Gooding Sr. rose to prominence as the lead singer of ‘The Main Ingredient’, a popular R&B group.

Later, Gooding decided to go solo and signed with Motown Records in 1977. He released two albums, which included the hit “Mind Pleaser.” Again in 1979, he rejoined his band, The Main Ingredient.

In January, Cuba Gooding, Jr., spoke of his relationship with his father in “Inside the Actors Studio.”

He said,

“I remember, one of my earliest memories, I couldn’t have been more than 8 or 9 years old, maybe 7, he would perform at Disneyland, and after his performances, they would close it off to the general public and all the performers’ kids would go on the rides as many times as they’d want,” he said.

Adding,

“He would pull me up on stage with him and make me finish the song because I’d seen him perform all the time in the household all the time. It was a lot of feeling like, ’I come from royalty.’”
