Sarah Ferguson reminiscences on Princess Diana’s kind heart
Sarah Ferguson opened up about her bond with Princess Diana.
The Duchess of York, who is famous by her nickname Fergie recalled the friendship she shared with the late Princess of Wales on the latest episode of her new podcast Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah on Wednesday.
During the show’s Drink or Spill segment, co-host Sarah Thomson asked Ferguson if she and the late royal had interests in charity work.
She then chose to reveal the truth. The mother of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie said,
“Diana and I, we definitely talked incessantly about charity. We loved to give. So she was very similar to me. She never understood how brilliant she was really, and together we both didn’t. And I used to hug her but she wouldn’t understand,”
“And her mother and my mother were at school together, and they were best friends. And Diana was my fourth cousin. You know, it’s just extraordinary that we were brought together.”
The two aristocrats were childhood pals who then married into the royal family just a few years apart.
Diana married the then-future King, Prince Charles in 1981. Fergie married the Queen’s second son, Andrew in 1986.
Unfortunately, both marriages crumbled and ended in divorce. Diana ended up losing her life in a tragic car crash in Paris in 1997.
Talking about the close friendship they shared, Sarah said,
“And we loved each other with all our hearts and she made me laugh more than any other single person I’ve ever met in my life.”
”Diana was just a tinkling laughter down the corridors and there was nobody like her in the world because she had that ability to give her entire heart because she didn’t give her entire heart to herself. It’s been written about many times. And I have decided at 63, to perhaps start understanding what that means.”

How Diana inspired Sarah to navigate life as a royal
The former royal also said that Diana devoted her entire heart to causes that mattered to her like busting stigmas around HIV and AIDS.
It was Diana’s confidence that inspired Sarah to find her footing within the royal family.
Ferguson added,
“I remember when I first became a princess with Duch [Diana’s nickname], and I watched her work a room, and I just copied her. I mirrored her, how she did it, because she was just incredible,”
“She just immediately went in with her heart. Full heart, full energy, and she left everything outside the door.”
Sarah announced their new weekly podcast and promised to focus on every subject.
Despite being super close, the two women were also young, sensitive, and insecure with their titles and themselves. This caused them to have a bit of rivalry for a long time.
Diana once revealed to her biographer Andrew Morton that Sarah “wooed everybody in this family and did it so well. She left me looking like dirt.”
The princess added that her husband, Charles, told her “I wish you would be like Fergie—all jolly.”
