He was born to his father Alan Gering who was a sculptor and dancer and his mother Michele de Oñate who was a painter. His father was a Russian Jewish and his mother was Basque. He has an older sister named Charissa. He was very close to his grandmother who was also an artist. When he was eighteen, he moved to New York City to start his modeling career.
