George started his career working in the mailroom at the William Morris Agency based in NYU. His dedication made him an agent of the company.

One of George’s first assignments was to accompany famous singer Elvis Presley during his appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Later, George started packaging programs which include, The Steve Allen Show, That Girl featuring Marlo Thoma, and Gomer Pyle along with Jim Nabors.

In order to further his career, Shapiro left William Morris and began working as a producer and personal manager along with her partner and friend Howard West. They together founded Shapiro West Productions, and the executive produced Peabody, Emmy, and Golden Globe award-winning series, Seinfeld.

Moreover, he also worked as executive producer with his partner for West on the 1999 Universal biopic Man on the Moon featuring Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman and Danny DeVito as Shapiro.

On 30th June 2012, all the people of the comedy world gathered at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel located in Beverly Hills in order to honor Shapiro.
