Grace Potter better known as Grace Evelyn Potter is a singer-songwriter and musician from the United States. Red Shoe Rebel (2002), Original Soul (2004), Midnight (2015), Daylight (2019), and Mother Road (2023) are her solo albums.

Potter was born in Waitsfield, Vermont, on June 20, 1983. Her parents, Peggy and Sparky Potter were both professional woodworkers her mother also taught piano. Charlotte Potter, her older sister, is an artist who works with glass.

In 2009, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Potter met Matt Burr, her future husband and drummer, while in college, and he urged her to form a band. They began performing at the Java Barn. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals got their name because they couldn’t find a rehearsal room until 2 a.m. They would practice all night and then go to class.

Scott Tournet on guitars (including slide guitar and harmonica), Matthew Burr on drums, Michael Libramento on bass guitar and keyboards, and Benny Yurco on electric guitar and vocals comprised the band. Bryan Dondero joined the band in early 2009 and played bass guitar, upright bass, and mandolin.

Red Shoe Rebel, her debut album, was published in 2002. Original Soul, her second album, was released in 2004.

Nothing but the Water was the group’s first independent recording, released in 2005 with sound engineer Lane Gibson, who also recorded and mastered Original Soul (2004).

In December 2005, the band struck a deal with Hollywood Records, and Nothing But the Water was re-released in May 2006.

The band received nominations for “Best Local Female Artist” and “Best New Local Act” at the Boston Music Awards in 2005.
