Mexican professional basketball player Gustavo Ayon was born in Tepic, Nayarit. He was born on 1 April 1985 and named as Gustavo Alfonso Ayon Aguiree.

He started playing in the NBA after signing with the New Orleans Hornet in December 2011.

He signed a three-year contract with the Hornets but he was traded to Orlando Magic on 11 July 2012, in exchange for Ryan Anderson.

On 21 February 2013, he was traded to Milwaukee Bucks but he was released from the team on 25 July 2013. On 29 July 2013, Atlanta Hawks acquired him where he recorded his career-high of 18 points in a match against the Toronto Raptors.

Ayon missed most of his matches due to an injury in his right shoulder. On 23 September 2014, he signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid and has won Spanish League with the team.

On 14 July 2016, he signed a three-year contract extension with Real Madrid and he has been playing for the team since then.

In 2013, he was named the MVP of the FIBA Americas Championship leading Mexico to win the gold medal.
