How does it feel to give birth to nine babies at once? Halima Cisse shares her experience

Many people still find it hard to believe that a human can give birth to nine babies at once. Halima Cisse is living proof she gave birth to nonuplets on May 4, 2021.

A year after the birth, Halima explained how it feels to have so many babies around her all the time.

Having given birth to five girls and four boys, Cisse has inducted her name into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most children delivered in a single birth to survive.

Cisse originally hails from Mali. The government of her country flew her to Morocco to provide her with the necessary care during childbirth knowing her critical condition.

Before the birth, doctors only spotted only seven babies. To the doctors’ surprise, when she gave birth via Caesarean section, nine tiny babies weighing 500g and 1 kg were delivered.

Halima speaks about motherhood

In an interview, Halima explained how she felt while the babies were delivered.

She said:

“As the babies were coming out, there were so many questions going through my mind. I was very aware of what was going on and it seemed as if there was an endless stream of babies coming out of me.”

After some time, the mother of nine said:

“My children do not sleep at the same time. Some sleep a bit later, when others wake up.”

“Breastfeeding was not easy. When we were at the hospital, I was using a breast pump.”

The family needs an average of 45 nappies a day and 15 kgs of milk a week.

The father of the babies, Abdelkader Arby, said:

“We try to organise ourselves. From 10 am the babies are usually in the living room where there is a TV set. They like cartoons and when you put that on, they are calm.”
