Inspired by Dr. Woo, celebrity tattoo artist JonBoy opens his tattoo studio in a New York City Hotel!
He is a celebrity tattoo artist who is famous for micro tattoos. He had inked a white dot on Kendall Jenner’s finger. Jonathan Valena who goes by the name JonBoy has now opened a new shop in a New York City Hotel.

The Filipino-American celebrity tattoo artist JonBoy is known for his fine line designs and delicate creations. Many celebrities flock to him to have their body inked. Famous names in the Hollywood industry such as Hailey Baldwin, Justin Bieber, Zayn Malik, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Kendall Jenner have paid even up to $ 1000 to get their favorite designs and letters inked on their body.
He has his shop at West 4th earlier but has now moved to Moxy Times Square. It is not a traditional tattoo shop but is situated on the second floor of a hotel.
Why did he make his tattoo studio in a hotel?
Ask JonBoy this question and his answer is:
“I’ve loved hotels, ever since I can remember. I am not homeless or anything, but I love checking out hotels. Plus, I’ve gotten tattoos out of a Vegas hotel and one of my heroes, Dr. Woo, from LA tattoos, works out of Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. No one was doing that in New York City. So, I really wanted to put a tattoo shop inside of a hotel.”
So JonBoy was inspired by artist Dr. Woo to open his new studio in a NY City hotel.
JonBoy had worked on celebrities in hotels since they could not come to the shop. He has kept a pretty mobile setup for it.
Why did JonBoy choose Times Square for his new shop?
JonBoy revealed that when he moved from Chicago to New City, Times Square was the place for him. He said:
“There is just something about Times Square for me, at least. I know sometimes it’s annoying when you’re walking through the crowd, and people are taking pictures. But, I am all about being flashy. And obviously I have people that travel from all over the world to get tattooed by me, so what better way of having that experience and coming to Times Square, staying at the Moxy, enjoying the food here?”
How did JonBoy come to do fine lines and small tattoos?
JonBoy again here was inspired by Dr. Woo. He said:
“I didn’t even think I could do these small tattoos. Then I discovered Doctor Woo, and I was like woah, that guy can do fine lines. So, I started doing these smaller tattoos and was posting them more, and I just became the go-to guy. For a while, no one else was doing it. Now, I don’t think people are going to stop getting small tattoos.”
But why do celebrities love JonBoy so much?
JonBoy is a talented artist famous for minute tattoos. At the same time, he considers everyone a celebrity. He said:
“I tattoo everyone. I celebrate everyone. What does it mean to be a celebrity? To be celebrated? I treat everyone like a celebrity. And I think that is why they get tattooed by me because they know I am chill. I am not here to exploit them and I am not here to talk about their business. I am just easy to be around, and I am not here to judge anyone”
JonBoy is an in-demand tattoo artist and getting his appointment for a tattoo is difficult. His books are closed and he has now set the Moxy priority scheduling and also some walk-in days.
