Later, on Thursday, August 10, 2017, Jeff Lord lost his job after a convoluted Twitter exchange in which he evoked — mockingly, he said — a Nazi salute.

After tweeting “Sieg Heil!” in response to a message from Angelo Carusone, the head of the liberal organization Media Matters, he received backlash and lost his job.

The following day, in a statement, CNN said,

“Nazi salutes are indefensible and Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”

Explaining his tweet, Jeff said,

“I am mocking people who are using bully tactics in the style of fascists and Nazis to take people off the air, and I am the one who gets taken off the air.”

While on his way to CNN’s Manhattan studio in a town car provided by the network, Jeff Lord received a telephone call firing him.

Later, after the call, Jeff said,

“I didn’t have to walk; I thanked them for that.”

After losing his job at CNN, Jeff Lord accused the president of Media Matters, Angelo Carusone of emulating fascists by calling for sponsors to boycott Sean Hannity’s Fox News show.

Jeff further tweeted,

“And always have opposed. There is no room for this garbage.”

That same day, he expressed his thoughts on Twitter,

“This is a guy whose ravings have been -as cited- anti-Semitic etc etc. This crap cannot be allowed to go unchallenged.”

Jeff Lord was CNN’s most often-seen Trump surrogate. He signed with the network in August 2015. His CNN career ended on August 10, 2017.

After losing the job, he said that he loved CNN and respected Jeffrey A. Zucker, the network’s president.

He also said that he found his firing ‘incredibly ironic.’
