In August, the pair walked out of Mallorca Villa, winning a £50,000 cash prize, competing with the other three finalists Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hude, Molly Marsh, and Zach Noble, and Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki.
Jess and Sammy had a tumultuous journey on the show, facing relationship challenges. Some viewers had doubts about Sammy’s intentions as he previously mentioned Jess wasn’t his usual type.
Similarly, Sammy kissed two other girls on the show, including Amber Wise. However, after Casa Amor, Root finally came to the realization that his heart belonged to Jess, and things only got better from there.
They also continued their romance outside of the show.

After that, they were spotted together at the National Television Awards in late of the same month.

As soon as the breakup rumors surfaced online, Sammy was quick to clarify them. He shared an Instagram story confirming he was blindsided by his sudden breakup news with Jess Harding.
Root began,
“Hi guys, I thought I would come online to address today’s news about me and Jess. Yes, we has a private conversation but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven’t had a chance to speak in person, For me to then see this today via the media that we had officially broken up came as a total shock.”
“To be totally clear—I at least wanted to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward. We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess.”
He then went on to acknowledge that he was “committed and respectful towards their relationship”, but Unfortunately, “things don’t always work out the way you’d hoped”.
The project manager, 22, concluded the statement with a sweet message for Jess, writing,
