Joanna Goddard and Alex Williams are no longer a married couple

Cup of Jo Influencer Joanna Goddard has announced her separation from her husband Alex Williams after 13 years of marriage.

The award-winning blogger, 43, shared the heartbreaking news on Thursday, February 9, via her blog post that she and Alex have separated.

Goddard noted that although the pair have decided to split up they will “always be over-the-moon co-parents to our two beautiful boys”.

The now-ex-couple shared two sons together Toby, 12, and Anton, 9. She wrote on her blog,

“We are feeling good and confident about this decision, which of course we made with difficulty and careI’ll always love Alex (a funny, insightful person; father of my children!), but we felt like we were on increasingly different wavelengths when it came to parenting, life, and philosophies, and though we tried mightily we couldn’t bridge the gap.”

However, there is not much known about their divorce reason.

The blogger then said that she was disclosing their divorce news because fans had recently contacted her with questions after noticing that Alex “hadn’t been mentioned lately.”

Similarly, Joanna mentioned that their close friends and family reacted to the news of the divorce with “gasps” and “chest-clutching”.

She continued,

“Friends have brought us soup and given bear hugs and texted ‘how are you doing’ every morning like clockwork. I like when people ask, ‘Should I say sorry or congratulations?’ because that question acknowledges that both things can be true.”

How long have Joanna Goddard and Alex Williams been together?

In 2006, Joanna Goddard and Alex Wiliams began dating. Joanna wrote in a 2016 blog post, that they were both nervous on their first date until Joanna put her hand on his arm.

The couple wed in a private New York ceremony in June 2009 after over three years of dating. Their wedding was officiated by Goddars’ uncle, Hamish P.J. Goddard.

Joanna wrote in her most recent blog post that despite some “grindingly hard and emotional” phases in their marriage, it “remain[ed] thoughtful and loving” generally.

She wrote,

“It’s funny, I truly feel like our marriage was in many ways a success, even though it’s ending. We had 10 mazing years together (with regular old ups and downs), and have you seen the two miracle people we made from scratch?!!”

The blog continued,

“The past three years grew more and more difficult (with couples therapy; arguments; distance; the pandemic; feeling like we were speaking different languages); and it felt like a necessary time for a new life chapter.”
