King Charles III honors Queen of Rock Tina Turner

King Charles is a fan of Tina Turner.

The monarch honored the legacy of the late  Queen of Rock with a musical tribute at his official residence, Buckingham Palace after his death on Wednesday.

The newly crowned King allowed the Band of the Welsh Guards to perform her 1989 hit song The Best during the changing of the guard in front of the palace gate on Friday.

The First Battalion Welsh Guards Corps of Drums also joined the group for the centuries-old ceremony.

During the ceremony, the King’s Guard handed over responsibility for protecting Buckingham and St. James’ Place to the New Guard.

Charles first met the iconic singer in 1986  when he was the Prince of Wales. She got a chance to interact with Charles and his then-wife Princess Diana when she performed at the Prince’s Trust All-Star Rock Concert at Wembley Stadium.

The Best used to hold a special place in Diana’s heart.

Tina passed away due to a long illness at age 83 at her multi-million, lavish mansion near Zurich, Switzerland.

Her official rep released the sad news, writing,

“With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,”

“Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,”

Princess Diana loved listening to Tina’s songs

In a December 2021 episode of Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk series, Prince William revealed that his mom would enjoy playing the track while dropping him and Harry off at their boarding school.

The prince, 40, said,

“One of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s ‘The Best’ because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment,” 

He added,

“And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice.”

William who was only 15 when his mom passed away in a tragic car crash, said,

“We’d even get the policeman [security] in the car: he’d occasionally be singing along as well. We’d be singing and listening to the music right the way up to the gates at school where they dropped you off.”

“When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother,”

Many fans and A-listers like Mick Jagger, Cher, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, and shared their memories with Turner on social media.
