He enrolled in its cosmetology school, and after graduating first in his class, he worked as a colorist at the New York-based hair salon Arrojo Studio.
He began working on the makeover series What Not to Wear and While You Were Out. In 2002, an Arrojo client informed him of a casting call for a makeover program.
Kyan submitted the producers a photo of himself as well as a brief bio he’d written. He was invited in for an audition, and he was soon appointed as the show’s Grooming Guru.
Kyan appeared on soundtrack CD and DVD-based events, as well as magazine covers and chat shows, as a member of Queer Eye. Kyan also produced Beautified and is a L’Oréal spokesperson and product.
In 2004, he was again asked to lecture at his alma mater, Loyola University New Orleans.
