American writer and comedian, Fortune Feimster and her wife, Jacquelyn Smith have split. Will a legal divorce follow?

TMZ has reported that lesbian American comedian and writer, Fortune Feimster, 44 and her wife, Jacquelyn Smith have separated and are headed towards a divorce.

Insiders have revealed that the couple has split recently. Moreover, they added that Fortune is going to soon file for a divorce in court.

The exact date of separation is not certain. Also, the reason for this separation has been unclear still.

There has been no announcement on this separation from either Fortune or Jacquelyn. No joint statement has been made by them yet.

The relationship of the couple

It was in June 2015 that Fortune and Jacquelyn met at the Pride event in Chicago. Just one day prior to this meet, the supreme court of the USA had legalized same-sex marriages across the country through the verdict in the Obergefell v. Hodges case.

In October 2022, Fortune told People magazine:

It was love at first sight, baby!”

“We happened to meet in a parking lot, because Pride commandeers different parks and areas. I’d only been there 10 minutes when we met, and we kept running into each other all night.”

Jacquelyn was a kindergarten school teacher. To start with, it was a long distance relationship because Jacquelyn was based in Chicago while Fortune was residing in California. After one year, Jacquelyn relocated to be with Fortune.

In January 2018, the two engaged during their holiday in Big Sur, California. They wed in October 2020 in an intimate ceremony in Malibu in California. Both had adopted a pomeranian dog named Biggie. This dog was the ring bearer at their wedding ceremony.

Jacquelyn is originally from Michigan while Fortune is from North Carolina. The wedding happened during the COVID pandemic and lockdown and hence, the families of both could not attend it.

The couple worked together on television shows. But they have no kids together.

The couple’s life together until now

Jacquelyn left her job and started working with Fortune. She served as an executive producer for Fortune’s show Good Fortune and her special 2020 show Sweet and Salty.

Fortune had joined TV in 2010 with NBC show Last Comic Standing. Her fame came with her acting role as Colette in The Mindy Project. She has also starred in The L Word reboot and The L Word: Generation Q.

Talking about her collaboration with Jacquelyn on the show, Fortune told People magazine:

“She does not want to be in the spotlight,”

“She’s the brains helping me. We’re teammates.”

And Jacquelyn added:

It’s a good balance. I don’t have a problem seeing her shine and getting all the attention. I love that for her. But I don’t want any of that! I never want to get on a stage.”

Further, she admitted:

“I’m not the funniest, but I’ll be like, ‘Hey, I think there’s something there. Maybe you could find a funnier bit in that.’ I am always so proud of her and love seeing her bring joy to a theater full of people.”
