The famous actress Dakota Johnson opened her home doors to Architectural Digest.

Dakota Johnson and her mansion

The actress Dakota Johnson is the daughter of actor Don Johnson and actress Melanie Griffith. She belongs to a family of entertainers and has been working since the age of 10. So it is obvious that her home would be above that of the average celebrity.

Recently, Dakota opened her home to the cameramen and reporters of Architectural Digest. It is unique and she affectionately calls it a tree house on a boat.

She had purchased it from producer Ryan Murphy around 5 years back. But she found one on day one of her search for an LA home.

Dakota said:

“I was immediately drawn to how it was clean but also cozy,”

The backstory of the mansion

Architect Carl Maston designed the home. There is a great backstory of the mansion which she liked as well.

Revealing it, Dakota said:

“Maston was buddies with Lautner and Neutra, and they’d all go to Musso & Frank’s together because there was a hostess that they were all in love with. Carl ended up marrying her, and this was the house they lived in.”

Dakota has used the money she earned from the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy to buy this expensive house.

She said:

“I thought it would be healthy to have a base. And, at the very least, have one place where you know your stuff is, as opposed to 10 places.”

The interior of the house

Dakota has decorated her house with both vintage and new pieces. She starts the house tour from the living room. It has a coffee table which came with the house. She has an alphabetized record collection and a book collection.

There is a Funko Pop figurine of Barb from Stranger Things on display on a shelf and beside it is her People’s Choice Award. Her dog Zeppelin resides with this animal lover.

The house has a serene backyard that has trees and a pool. The table and chairs there are made from wood taken from Winston Churchill’s yacht. Additionally, Dakota has buried her cat named Chicken here.

Interior designers Emily Ward and Louisa Pierce, who are the founders of the Pierce & Ward firm are her friends and helped her design the house. Emily Ward spoke about the changes they made in the house:

“The upstairs floor was made entirely of cork, which was really cool but wasn’t salvageable,”

Dakota also requested the renovation of the master bathroom. She added two separate vanities to it and said:

“I think the key to a healthy relationship is double sinks,”

Currently, Dakota is in a relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
